How to Get the Lighting Just Right

When photographing any type of automobile the lighting is crucial in order to obtain a clear, believable photo. This is because there are so many variables such as the brilliance of the shine, the teasing of the mirrors, and the desire to capture a specific part of the car. If you do not have any specialized equipment, or if you have limited extras, you can still use the natural light to make any auto look as good as possible.

One way to approach these photos, using natural light, is to find the light which will make your photo really unique and exciting.Never heard of this before? Get up to speed here. Unless you are in a studio then you are at the mercy of unexpected people walking by, your own reflections in the body of the car, and a number of other distracting features. Since cars are huge it is crucial to first determine what you want in your photograph and then figure how the light will help you to capture the image you want.

If you are at a car show, a meet, or in a parking lot, this means you will not have the flexibility of moving the car to meet your needs. In cases like this you will want to wait for the late light. Never waste a moment, however, continually walk around the car to determine what the light is doing and where it is doing it. You will be surprised how one moment the light might offer you a fantastic opportunity for a unique photo.

As you move around and the light is changing, make certain you notice the reflections. Another thing you must remember is that once you find the light offering the exact shot you want you must react quickly. Chances are you will have only about five minutes before your entire shot will change. You will still find good light which will last for ten to 15 minutes. Your acceptable light might last for an hour.

If the light is not cooperating for you then you might find yourself in a position of moving yourself about while trying different angles. If you continue to study your shot, along with the lighting, you will eventually get the photo you want.
