The Passat is a 4-door, 5-passenger sedan and wagon available in six trims, ranging from the GLS Sedan to the GLX Wagon. Upon introduction, the GLS Sedan is equipped with a standard 1.8-liter, I4, 150-horsepower engine that consumes 24 mpg in the city and 31-mpg on the highway. A 5-speed manual transmission with overdrive is standard on all trims, while a 5-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is optional.

Volkswagen has been busy in recent years. In between buying up smaller carmakers, designing 12- and 16-cylinder engines, and creating a new line of luxury vehicles, the company has had time to tweak its already excellent Passat sedan offerings.
